FOLK ‘N’ SHANTY PREMIERE CONCERT The Inadequates, Backlot Trio, The Albany Shantymen

We are thrilled to add a ‘premiere’ concert to the Albany International Folk ‘n’ Shanty Festival 2024 programme. Opening the event are our very own Albany Shantymen, igniting the festival fire with their vocal power and joy. Following are the Backlot Trio, a group of recently formed multi-instrumentalists who play a rich mix of Celtic and World songs and tunes. Completing the triple bill are Brisbane’s zany trio of manic maestros, The Inadequates.

The ‘official’ opening concert of Albany International Folk ‘n’ Shanty Festival 2024 will be a PARTY not to be missed. Three top flight Australian acts kick off the event. From the exotic musical flavours of the Queen of Hearts mariachi and world music band, to the blistering acoustic inventiveness of The Inadequates and on to the darlings of the 2023 program, The Salty Sirens with their four-piece band ‘The Irate Pirates’; we promise a rich and highly entertaining triple bill of folk’n shanty brilliance.


A MUSICAL VOYAGE WITH ALBANY SINFONIA

Saturday 6th July, 1:00pm at Albany Town Hall (Doors 12:30pm)

From swashbuckling movie themes to triumphant British sea songs, from Bizet to Wagner and even some audience singalong participation; the Albany Sinfonia under the baton of musical director Kathryne MacNeil promise an entertaining matinee of maritime themed music.

Saturday 6th July, 7:00pm at Albany Town Hall (Doors 6:30pm)

Folk ‘n’ Shanty Concert Number 2 kicks off with the stunning Spirit of Alba, a foot-stomping, acoustic tour de force of some of Perth’s best trad music players. This concert also features the debut gig of our international headliners from New Zealand, the Wellington Sea Shanty Society. Completing the triple bill are the six-time WAM Award winning duo, Gina Williams and Guy Ghouse.


FOLK ‘N’ SHANTY CONCERT 3 – ‘Wellington Sea Shanty Society & The Salty Sirens Singalong‘, Queen of Hearts, The Albany Shantymen

Sunday 7th July, 6:30pm at Albany Town Hall (Doors 6:00pm)

The final Folk ‘n’ Shanty Concert of the festival kicks off with Albany’s own Shantymen in full blown concert mode. Following are the delightful all female Queen of Hearts bringing their infectious sounds of mariachi music infused with a bouquet of global sounds. The last hoorah is for Wellington Sea Shanty Society and Salty Sirens serving up a fishy dish of shanty singalong.
